Mickel Motorsport brings a Sparkle to Opening Round of the 2019 UK Nationals Legends Season at Brands Hatch

The competition was always going to be tough with some strong contenders returning to the field this year. With only 14 rounds in 2019 it is important to maintain consistency and maximise points where possible.

As always there was action on track which resulted in shunts and knocks for all three drivers but only one of these collisions resulted in a DNF and that was for #3 Mike Schlup in the JLM car in race 2 on Sunday. The crew got their tools out and did a great job with repairs to enable him to take to the track for race 3.

All drivers narrowly missed a huge crash which brought out the red flag in the last race of the weekend. It happened at the first famous Paddock Hill bend on the first lap of the Final. There was a spectacular roll by Will Gibson in the #51. Everyone was delighted to see that the strong pocket rocket kept the pilot safe in his flight.

Sunday saw John Mickel collect 3rd place trophy overall following a list of consistent finishes in his shiny QuikSteel #4 car with 5th, 5th and 3rd and on Monday an 8th, 3rd and 5th to take another 3rd place trophy for the overall points on Monday.

Paul Simmons looked fast in his newly livered #51 SP Tools/Netsense/Baleigh Industrial Legend, finishing 11th , 6th and 12th  on Sunday and was awarded the Master of the Day. On Monday he placed 17th, 8th and despite leading the race having made his way to the front of the field, ended up taking 6th  following some hairy racing that saw constant changes for the lead.

Mike Schlup was the dark rider in his black #3 JLM livered Legend.  Mike is the least experienced of the Mickel Motorsport drivers but still showed some great talent. He finished 16th, one DNF and 15th on Sunday and on Monday he finished 16th, 17th and 14th.

UK National Legends 2019 Championship points after round 1 & 2

John Mickel is in 3rd place, just 20 points behind 2nd place and only 60 points from 1st place.

Paul Simmons in 10th place and is separated by 350 points from the leader.

Mike Schlup in 18th place, 735 points behind the leader.
