Mickel Brings Home Two World Titles

John Mickel has just returned home to Horsham from New Hampshire USA bringing with him the World Legends Masters Championship and the World Series Points Title. Mickel Motorsport flew John’s UK Legends Championship car over to the USA specifically for this race.

It arrived in plenty of time to allow the team to work their magic, making the #4 K-Seal Legend perfect for race weekend.

Saturday 17th October

Qualifying

The format for the World Legends Masters Championship was a three stage process. Firstly, John needed to complete a five lap qualifying event.  The fastest driver earns the highest points. These points are attributed to the driver’s grid position in the final.

John has not contended a qualifying event quite like this before in Legends but his experience in other forms of motorsport like NASCAR Trucks and the ASA Series gave him enough experience for him to qualify second.

Heat

The second stage of the process was to take part in one of two heats. The total field was separated into these two separate heats. The driver’s finish position in his heat determines how many points each driver is awarded, with the winner taking the most points. These points are then combined with the points earned from the Qualifying and the amalgamation of these points determines your grid position for the Grand Final of the Legends World Championship.

John started from the rear of the grid. In true Mickel style, he fought his way perfectly through the traffic, driving the UK #4 K-Seal Legend up to the leaders where he fought hard to take a second place finish, crossing the line pushing the leader. If only there was one more lap!.

Sunday 18th October - Final

John arrived at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Finals Day with the World Championship clearly in his sights. His second place in Qualifying combined with his second place in the Heats put John Mickel on pole in his UK #4 K-Seal Legend. That was a place that John was not prepared to relinquish, despite the fact that there were three caution flags and one red flag during the race. He drove the car off its wheels to maintain the lead from start to finish, taking, not only the World Championship at the chequered flag but also the World Points Title which he has won through achieving the most points in all the Finals races over the season, across the World.

John and Mickel Motorsport could not have made this possible without the support of all the crew and families of the crew, the fans and all of our partners that have assisted the team through 2015. The support has been amazing!

John now has only a few weeks to get the car back to the UK and prime it ready for the final rounds of the UK Legends Championship due to take place at Brands Hatch on 7th & 8th November where he will be fighting for the UK title too!

Thank you!

Mickel Motorsport would like to thank the following companies for their amazing support in 2015
