John Mickel was involved in a spectacular crash in the opening rounds of the 2023 UK National Legends Championship at Cadwell Park. Horsham based Mickel was rushed to Diana Princess of Wales Hospital in Grimsby following an enormous crash where bystanders witnessed his 5/8th scale 34 Ford Coupe literally take off, performing multiple high-speed rolls in the air before coming to rest on its side. The rescue crew, marshals, medics, and some stunned drivers pulled Mickel from his wrecked car.

John Mickel
#4John Mickel was born with oval racing in his blood. His father competed in local stock car events then introduced a young John to Mini Stocks, running on quarter mile ovals, at the tender age of 10. His love for speed became more pronounced as he started to take podium positions in everything he raced, becoming a multi junior champion before the age of 12 on the short ovals.

Oli Schlup
#9In 2021 Oli turned 16 and had the opportunity to get his ARDS test, which he passed just after his 16th birthday. Oli’s Dad has been racing Legends for a few years by now, also with Mickel Motorsport, so he was familiar with the cars and the format. He had a couple of races with Legends towards the end of the ‘21 season and managed to get some positive results, despite having to start from the back. For 2022 , his first full season, he ran a full Legends campaign and he set his sight on the Rookie Championship. There was very stiff competition and Oli was just pipped to the Rookie title by a few points leaving him to claim 2nd place. He is currently studying motorsport mechanics at college and in his spare time he loves to play rugby for Haywards Heath RFC Colts.

Mike Schlup
#3A few years ago Mike bought a Lotus Elise and started doing track days which he thought were great fun but it didn't cure his racing bug. Around the same time his business got involved in motorsport sponsorship to help promote it’s K-Seal brand and this brought Mike into contact with John Mickel. The fantastic success of the 2015 season with John finally made Mike decide to give 'proper' racing a go and the team at Mickel Motorsport were the ideal choice to get him on track in a competitive car. Mike is the owner of Kalimex which distributes K-Seal Permanent Coolant Leak Repair, Quiksteel Epoxy Putty and JLM Lubricants in the UK. He live in West Sussex with his wife Debbie and he has two children, Lauren and Oli.

Paul Musselle
#28Motorsport runs in his blood. Paul first stood trackside aged 8 and within 20 years was appointed as Motorsports commentator working at all of the UK circuits. Paul was also the inaugural series commentator for Legends, so it was no surprise that having ‘talked the talk’ he should transition from the commentary box to the inside of the race car! After several outings in the series media car, Paul was delighted to be asked to race a Mickel Motorsport run car for the first time in 2000, claiming his first Legends victory at Mallory Park. Ten years later in 2010, Paul competed in the CPC Legends in the number 14 car and under the Mickel Motorsport banner, finishing a highly credible 10th in his first full championship year. Now, 12 years later, Paul returns, encouraged and supported by his wife Mandy and children Charlotte, Harri and Harley. Paul is thrilled and excited that son Harri will enter the racing fray in the latter part of the 2023 season.
